My Favorite Things

1. Coffee

One of my favorite things is coffee and learning new ways to make coffee – mainly espresso. My favorite drink is an iced oat milk latte with a little bit of honey. I love trying new places and I have found many awesome stops in Minnesota, Iowa and San Diego, California. Here are some of my favorite coffee shops I have been to! I always get the same oat milk latte with honey and I can guarantee you’ll get an awesome latte from all these spots.

2. Music

Playing music, listening to music, going to concerts etc. Music is a large piece of who I am and I have met a lot of people through music. I can play guitar and piano and I write songs as well. I produce music and like to find new ways to write and record!

3. Baby Yoda

I don’t know why, I’ve just always loved this little guy. He’s so cute! I have received a bunch of baby Yoda merchandise through gifts from friends and family. From a big squish-mellow to drawings of Yoda, I love all of it. I think it’s kind of a running joke now. However, it entertains me and I look forward to adding to my baby yoda shrine.

4. Reading

In the past year, I have really gotten into reading. I go in waves of it due to busy schedules and school work piling up but I enjoy when I get the time to sit down and read. I also believe reading makes you a better writer so I try to read as much as possible. In the summer of 2022, my cousins introduced me to a few fiction books and I enjoyed them a lot. However my favorite genre is self-help books. It sounds cheesy but I see life in a total different lens after reading books like Big Magic and A New Earth.

5. Cooking/ Baking

Every time I get a weekend to go home, I find new recipes to make. I love baking and cooking so much and getting to have a whole kitchen is my favorite thing about going home! My go to dishes are classic chocolate chip cookies and homemade pasta. I have searched far and wide to find the best chocolate chip cookie recipe and at your service – I will add my recipe below.

  • 2/3 Cup – Butter
  • 1 Cup – Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cup – White Sugar
  • 2 – Eggs
  • 2 tsp – Vanilla
  • 1 tsp – Salt
  • 1 tsp – Baking Soda
  • 2 3/4 Cups – Flour
  • Lots of chocolate chips/ chunks

6. Old Cameras

I love collecting vintage cameras and I have found a new love for photography in doing so. I have a few film cameras and a couple digital video cameras as well. I like the idea of the photography not always being the best quality because it is more about the moment it was captured rather than thinking about it so much. I also appreciate the wonderful talents in photography and I look forward to learning more. I have a bunch of film to get developed from summer and I am excited to see what is on them!

7. Oceanside, CA

My favorite place is a suburb of San Diego, California called Oceanside. I have been to the city three times and it is a gorgeous little coastal town with a very relaxing atmosphere. I hope to live in California one day and I would love to go on weekend getaways to the town for a breath of fresh coastal air.

8. Stars/ Astronomy

I enjoy learning about stars and astronomy and I love to take pictures of stars and see how I can edit them to accurately reflect what we see with the human eye. I can spot various constellations and I find it super interesting to learn about the folk tales revolving around the different constellations. Such as the lion, Orion’s belt, and the taurus (which is my star sign).

9. Thrifting

Thrifting feeds into all of my hobbies and I love finding things that not everyone has or knows about. I just started discovering new places in Des Moines. I have mainly thrifted back home in Minnesota so I have expectations and usually know what I am getting myself into. Now, I rely on the opinions of friends that know the Des Moines better than I do to find new thrift stores. So far, it has been successful. Here is a list of my favorite thrift stores!

  • Shalom Home – Cambridge, MN
  • Overflow – Ames, IA
  • Picker Nose – Des Moines, IA
  • Looney Bins – Des Moines, IA
  • Rumors Vintage – Des Moines, IA

10. Beauty

From makeup to hair, from perfume to nails, I have always had a love for all things beauty. As a female, some may assume this is true for a majority of the gender. However, I have learned everything I know about hair, makeup and skincare from one of my older brothers, Sam. He went to cosmetology school and worked behind luxury makeup counters. His years of experience and expertise were passed down to me and I got a little bit of his talent through his teaching.
